Living your life fulfilled

Living your life fulfilled

I love the story of the little eagle I heard from my good friend, Lane, more than 30 years ago. It stuck with me ever since. It continues to inspire the way I want to live my life.

The little eagle lived among hens. She belonged to the good community of hens and lived surrounded by hens. She fit right in! She thought like a hen, acted like a hen, and in the end, believed she was a hen.

One day, an eagle expert came around, "Hey you! You are an eagle; not a hen!" he said to the little eagle. She did not believe him. He tried to convince her, "You are a flying bird, you can fly high in the sky! Hens can't fly very high, but you can!" He put her on the roof of the chicken coop. "Fly!" he said! The little eagle was about to fly but she looked down and saw her peers. "I can't fly!" she said, "I'm a hen!"

Undeterred, the eagle expert brought the little eagle to the top of a mountain. The little eagle stood on a rock, ready to fly. She looked around. There were no hens, but the deep blue sky calling her. She leaped into the air and spread her wings. Next thing you know, she was soaring in the air!

Living life like a hen when we are meant to soar might offer a comfortable life but when we live like that, we forget our true identity and unique mission in life. We fail to grow and develop our strengths. There is so much more we can accomplish and become!

"The greatest handicap a person has is not realizing his potential" John C. Maxwell.
